Will Girling

A European Literature graduate dedicated to grappling with the written word and exploring the latest trends in contemporary cinema. After a stint working for a business magazine gave me my first taste of publishing my words, I’m grateful to UK Film Review for giving me the chance to write about something I’m really passionate about: film.

With an eye and an ear for the unusual, I enjoy movies that go beyond plot or characterization and instead defy genre constraints by exploiting that sweet combination of images and sound that only cinema can achieve. From Ben Wheatley’s A Field in England (2013) to Gaspar Noe’s Enter the Void
(2009), Alejandro Jodorowsky’s The Holy Mountain (1973), or Luis Buñuel’s Un Chien Andalou, I’m always excited by eccentric movies that provoke thought or provide an experience unlike any other.

My favourite films of all time include: Easy Rider (1968), The Wicker Man (1973), and Eyes Wide Shut (1999).
