The film has been nominated for six BAFTA Awards, including Best Director, Best Film in a Foreign Language, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Supporting Actor, following its recent wins at the Golden Globes and Critics’ Choice Awards.
The film had its World Premiere at 2020 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award and has garnered critical acclaim and praise from audiences for its vivid and transformative storytelling. A tender and sweeping story about what roots us, MINARI follows a Korean-American family that moves to a tiny Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream.
The family home changes completely with the arrival of their sly, foul-mouthed, but incredibly loving grandmother.
Amidst the instability and challenges of this new life in the rugged Ozarks, MINARI shows the undeniable resilience of family and what really makes a home. With arresting performances from Steven Yeun, BAFTA-nominee Yuh-jung Youn (Sense8), Han Ye-ri (My Unfamiliar Family), and now BAFTA-nominated newcomer Alan S Kim, MINARI is intimate, beautifully composed and empathetic cinema of the highest order.
