HoneyDough Listen to our review on the film podcast What our film review said: READ FULL REVIEW Vitko delivers an entertaining performance as a single and cheerful woman who is looking for a bit of romance and Craib does a good job as a charming man who also happens to be made out of dough. • Coast Road | UKFRF 2022

Coast Road Listen to our review on the film podcast What our film review said: READ FULL REVIEW There is real skill in portraying drama that flows from one premise into something entirely different. The film begins as a cosy almost nostalgic snapshot of a simple life. The coach is a microcosm of a close knit community where people lived in each other’s pockets. The death then changes the tenor and everyone on board becomes a suspect. Proudly supporting MediCinema for our 2022 film festival.

  • Another Day | UKFRF 2022

Another Day Listen to our review on the film podcast What our film review said: READ FULL REVIEW The film is bookended by a second montage. During the finale, there is a heart-fluttering visual expression that is a little clunky in execution but expresses the sentiment of the short as succinctly as the opening. This kind of experimentation is what makes watching short films exciting. The kind of risks that pay off. Proudly supporting MediCinema for our 2022 film festival.

  • Finding Wilson | UKFRF 2022

Finding Wilson Listen to our review on the film podcast What our film review said: READ FULL REVIEW This short is a powerful drama that explores emotional trauma, particularly post-traumatic stress disorder, war trauma and bullying, including online bullying. It effectively presents two individuals who are suffering due to distressing experiences. The narrative focuses mainly on the encounter between Jess and Nicky and it includes flashbacks of Jess being bullied and Nicky engaging the enemy during combat. • The Saint | UKFRF 2022

The Saint Listen to our review on the film podcast What our film review said: READ FULL REVIEW This is an achievement worthy of great praise and admiration. It introduces the audience to a violent and disturbed individual and listening to his story is chilling, primarily due to Jegathesan's performance. A lot of work and creativity was put into this film and the result is an experience that has the viewer's attention from start to finish. Proudly supporting MediCinema for our 2022 film festival.

  • UK Film Review Festival | UK Film Review

UK Film Review Festival The UK Film Review Festival was created during the COVID-19 Pandemic, as a way of supporting indie filmmakers during the tumultuous times of lockdown and global shrinkage within the film industry. It was an online film festival with all screenings of official selections taking place on our sister VOD platform - UK Film Channel. Ours was a very unique film festival in the UK and internationally, as we not only showcase some of the best talent from across the globe, we also wanted to promote every single filmmaker who submitted their film to our online film festival . The festival is now on hiatus, following a return of in-person film festivals, we felt ours was no longer needed. And instead we focus on promoting filmmakers in a new way via our popular film podcast . Love this fest! Chris and UK Film Review are such amazing supporters of independent film and their festival was amazing! Holt Boggs, Director UKFRF 2022 Submissions Now Closed! ALL films submitted receive the following: ✔ Consideration for our annual online film festival ✔ A complimentary (free) film review by one of the UK Film Review movie critics published on our website All Official selections receive the following: ✔ An "Official Selection" laurel image to add to your artwork ✔ A screening during our online film festival during our event ✔ An official Online Distribution Deal with UK Film Channel after the event ✔ A feature on our Film Podcast . ✔ Promotion on our social media platforms All Winners receive the following: ✔ Everything that official selections get PLUS: ✔ A "Winner" laurel image to add to your artwork ✔ A Filmmakers Interview on our website or via Zoom

  • Julian Gaskell Film Critic | UK Film Review

Julian Gaskell Who'd have thought I'd end up on here as a writer? Certainly not my nan but I feel hugely honoured and privileged to be here passing judgement on far better creative and talented people than I, mostly;) Like a lot of people born post-70s I grew up watching TV, which meant watching whatever films were on terrestrial. This meant I grew up with an addiction to John Ford films although I never knew who he was until my late 20s. Then with the advent of VHS videotapes, I got the opportunity to watch my favourite films over and over again without having to wait for the repeats. Haven't times changed? You'll be glad to know my tastes have moved on since then and I now have pretensions towards more cerebral indie international films just with less chance of enjoying them, but you never know when you might stumble across a classic... • Kirsty Asher Film Critic | UK Film Review

Kirsty Asher It took me until third year at Bristol university to fully realise my obsession with film could manifest in film criticism, but better late than never! Writing about film is an absolute joy, especially when there's an online space like UK Film Review to explore ideas and gain writing experience. I've also been lucky enough to be published on MUBI Notebook and the film section of The Quietus, and you can also view my portfolio and my personal ramblings at https://kirstyasher.wordpress.com/. Some of my favourite films include Black Swan (2010), Whiplash (2014) and basically anything by David Fincher. Follow On Twitter Read My Film Reviews

  • Darren Tilby Film Critic | UK Film Review

Darren Tilby My introduction to film came at an early age: hours spent watching classics like Wizard of Oz, Tom Thumb and Clash of the Titans at home with my mother undoubtedly left a lasting impression on me. But it wasn't until I discovered the horror genre, and the Universal Monster movies in particular, that I truly fell in love with film. Horror may have been my first love, but it certainly wasn't my last, and I enjoy films right across the board (although I'm a bit of a sucker for a good animated film). And while my love of film has never wavered the decision to start writing about it was a very recent one and wasn't something I had studied for. After years of suffering ill health I wanted to get back into doing something I was passionate about; pairing my love of cinema and my love of writing seemed like the obvious choice—and if nothing else it might be a way for me to articulate my thoughts on films and stop boring my girlfriend with my rambling movie-based chat. And whilst that hasn't happened, I have been incredibly fortunate to have been given the chance to write for UK Film Review; a position which has given me some amazing opportunities, allowed me to discover some fantastic indie films, and work on my writing technique in a more structured way. My favourite films, in no particular order, are Aliens, Frank, Carol, When Marnie Was There, the Universal Monster movies, and anything by Guillermo del Toro, Laika Studios and Cartoon Saloon.
